WalletHub's rankings of the 2025 Best Colleges in America are surprising because they include schools that are not as well-known as others, such as Swarthmore and Hamilton, alongside more prestigious institutions such as Princeton, Yale, and Harvard.
The typical annual cost of a four-year college education, according to the company, is $28,000 to $60,000. In its mission "to determine the top-performing schools at the lowest possible costs to undergraduates," WalletHub claimed to have been instrumental. In pursuit of this goal, the organization compared 822 educational institutions using 30 critical metrics across seven domains.
