After a two-week search, the bodies of two teenage girls and a 12-year-old were recovered from the Missouri River in Omaha, Nebraska.

After an exhaustive two-week search, the Omaha community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of three young girls whose lives were tragically cut short in the Missouri River. The bodies of 18-year-olds Laiana Green and Lah Tray Moo, along with 12-year-old Eh Cress Moo, were recovered, bringing a somber close to a devastating chapter for their families and the city at large.

The Incident

On April 15, the four girls were fishing at N.P. Dodge Park, a popular recreational area in Omaha. According to witnesses, one of the girls slipped into the river, and the others entered the water in an attempt to rescue her. Only a 13-year-old girl managed to return safely to shore.

The body of Lah Tray Moo was recovered on April 26, followed by the discovery of Laiana Green and Eh Cress Moo on April 29. The Omaha Fire Department confirmed these findings and expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Community Response and Support

The Omaha Fire Department, along with multiple agencies, conducted extensive search operations, utilizing boats, helicopters, and drones. The community is now calling for enhanced safety measures at local recreational areas to prevent future tragedies.

Family members have found solace in the community's support. Nichelle Griffy, aunt of Laiana Green, shared, "We're feeling relief that we have all three girls physically now. We're sad but we're thankful. We are a community that is strengthening. The gain is the support that we have for each other because we're all sharing the same loss right now."Getty Images+11https://www.wowt.com+113newsnow.com+11

Fundraising Efforts

In the wake of the tragedy, fundraising efforts have been initiated to assist with funeral expenses. A GoFundMe page for Laiana Green's family describes her as someone who "acted selflessly and bravely in a moment of chaos," and has raised over $3,000 as of April 30. Another fundraiser for Lah Tray Moo and Eh Cress Moo, who were aunt and niece, has garnered nearly $7,000.

Moving Forward

As Omaha mourns the loss of these young lives, the collective grief is met with a unified commitment to support the affected families and to ensure the safety of all community members. The tragedy has sparked conversations about implementing better safety measures at local parks and recreational areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
