Where Is Michelle Obama? Why the Former First Lady Did Not Attend Jimmy Carter’s Funeral
Many social media users were surprised that Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, did not attend Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Former President Barack Obama was there and was seen sitting with President-elect Donald Trump and Melania Trump. All five living U.S. presidents attended the service in Washington on Thursday.

Barack Obama entered the Cathedral alongside other former presidents. However, Michelle Obama was missing. Barack was seen smiling and briefly chatting with Donald Trump.
People on social media had mixed reactions to Michelle Obama’s absence. One user on X (formerly Twitter) said: “Michelle Obama is so smart. She probably knew where her seat would be and decided to skip. Jimmy Carter would understand.” They shared a picture of Barack sitting next to Trump.

Another user wrote: “Oh, look, Michelle Obama couldn’t be bothered to come.” A third added: “If Melania skipped the funeral, can you imagine the backlash? So, where is Michelle Obama?”
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were also there, with Biden giving a eulogy. Former vice presidents Mike Pence and Al Gore were present, as well as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who recently announced he’s stepping down as Liberal Party leader.
"Mrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from the remarkable former President," Crystal Carson, a spokesperson for Michelle Obama.
The outlet reported that Michelle Obama, who would have sat next to Trump at the funeral, had a scheduling conflict and is in Hawaii.
