Who is Marisol Vazquez? Woman Charged with Murder of Her Daughter

On December 20, around 8:30 a.m., police found Vazquez naked on a bed with Lucia behind her. The child was not breathing, and water came out of her mouth when paramedics tried to save her. Police also found water and clothing in a bathtub. Lucia was later pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.

According to the arrest report, per CBS News, Vazquez made "incoherent statements about being trapped by electronics and that everyone has been raped" when she was questioned by detectives.

Vazquez told police that "voices" in her head led her to kill her daughter. She made incoherent statements about being trapped by electronics and said, "We had to go in the water. We had to be with nature." She confessed to suffocating Lucia with a bedsheet and said the voices told her to kill herself and her daughter to prevent the devil from eating her daughter.

Vazquez was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and later arrested. She appeared in court on January 4 and is currently detained at Cook County Jail. She is set to return to court on January 7.
