Emmanuel Amaral, who was having breakfast a couple of blocks away, rushed to the site on his golf cart after hearing a loud crash and the screeching of train brakes. He noted that one of their helmets had landed hundreds of feet from the collision site.

“The front of the train is completely smashed. Parts of the fire truck were stuck to the train’s front, and it was clear the force of the impact split the fire truck right in half. There was debris everywhere,” Amaral said, vividly recalling the aftermath.
