Mangione, 26, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with terrorism and two counts of second-degree murder, including one as an act of terrorism.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced that Mangione could face life imprisonment for the first-degree murder charge and a sentence ranging from 25 years to life for the second-degree murder charges.
The incident occurred on the morning of December 4, when Thompson was fatally shot in Manhattan, sparking a nearly weeklong manhunt for Mangione. The search concluded when Mangione was apprehended at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
