Cybersecurity expert and entrepreneur Amit Yoran, 54, has died after battling cancer. Yoran was the CEO and chairman of Tenable, a global cybersecurity company. The company, based in Columbia, Maryland, announced his passing in a press release.

"Amit passed away unexpectedly yesterday. He had been battling cancer," the company said. Yoran had taken medical leave on December 5, appointing CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond as co-CEOs. They will continue their roles while searching for a new CEO.

Tenable described Yoran as a "visionary leader" dedicated to making the digital world safer. Before leading Tenable, Yoran held roles such as CEO of NetWitness, CEO at In-Q-Tel, and president of RSA. He was also the founding director of the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team at the Department of Homeland Security.

Yoran was born in the US to Israeli immigrants and attended the United States Military Academy, earning a degree in computer science. He also received a master's degree in computer security from George Washington University.

Yoran is survived by his wife and three children. Tenable is known for its vulnerability scanning software, Nessus, and protects over 44,000 customers worldwide.
