Why the Recall Was Issued
The recall was initiated after Hanshaw & Capling Farms, located in Immokalee, Florida, notified Ray & Mascari Inc. that a batch of tomatoes may have been contaminated with Salmonella during the supply process. Ray & Mascari had repacked the affected tomatoes into branded 4-count clamshell containers, which have since been distributed across multiple U.S. states.

What Is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause serious gastrointestinal illness. Most people infected experience:

In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and result in severe complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as:
