According to the Columbia Police Department, Federico arrived at a home on the 2700 block of Cypress Street just after 3:00 a.m. She encountered 30-year-old Andrew Dickey, a man who police say was actively burglarizing the property.
Moments after she walked in, Dickey allegedly shot Federico in the chest. Despite attempts by her friends and first responders to save her, Federico was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andrew Dickey: Suspect's Crime Spree Across Multiple Counties
Following the fatal shooting, Dickey reportedly stole credit cards, house keys, and firearms from the home. He fled the scene in a stolen car, driving to West Columbia where, according to police, he went on a "shopping spree" using the stolen credit cards.
From there, he made his way to Saluda County, where the vehicle broke down. Rather than abandon his criminal activity, authorities say Dickey called a towing company to transport the car to a residence in Gaston. This action gave law enforcement their first solid lead, allowing them to begin tracking his movements.
Later, a resident of Lexington County reported seeing someone fleeing from the woods and stealing another vehicle. Dickey’s crime spree escalated when he allegedly broke into a home and set it on fire. He was finally taken into custody shortly afterward.
Emotional Press Conference and Community Response
On Friday, Columbia Police held a press conference to provide updates on the case. Logan Federico’s father gave a moving tribute to his daughter, describing her as bright, compassionate, and full of promise. Fighting back tears, he called her death “an unimaginable loss.”
He was joined by Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook and Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford, both of whom expressed condolences to the family and reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice for Logan. Rutherford confirmed that Federico died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
