A wave of powerful tornadoes tore across Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado, unleashing severe destruction and widespread power outages. In Kansas, the small town of Grinnell was hit especially hard—violent winds ripped the roof off a church and leveled multiple buildings.
Parts of Interstate 70 were shut down due to extensive power failures. Meanwhile, near Denver, Colorado, multiple tornadoes touched down in Bennett and Elbert County, damaging dozens of homes and buildings and knocking out electricity for many residents.

Kansas: Grinnell and Plevna Bear the Brunt
In Grinnell, Kansas, a tornado tore through the small town, ripping the roof off a church and destroying multiple buildings. The storm caused significant damage, leaving residents without power and gas.
Further east, the town of Plevna faced a "Tornado Emergency" as a large wedge tornado caused extensive damage to homes, trees, and utility poles. Emergency crews were dispatched to assess the situation and assist residents.
Colorado: Tornadoes Near Denver
Near Denver, Colorado, several tornadoes touched down, particularly affecting Bennett and Elbert County. In Bennett, at least three houses were damaged or destroyed, while in Elbert County, 19 homes suffered varying degrees of damage. Many residents were left without electricity as emergency services responded to the affected areas.
Missouri: St. Louis and Scott County Impacted
In Missouri, an EF3 tornado struck the Greater St. Louis area, resulting in five confirmed deaths and injuring at least 35 people. The tornado caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
Scott County also experienced severe impacts, with two fatalities reported and several homes destroyed. Emergency services are conducting damage assessments and providing assistance to affected residents.
Ongoing Severe Weather Threat
The National Weather Service has issued warnings for continued severe weather, including the possibility of more tornadoes, strong winds, and large hail across the central Plains and into Missouri. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines as the threat shifts eastward into the Midwest, Tennessee Valley, and Ohio Valley in the coming days.
