According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents had been dealing with Good for hours on January 7 as she repeatedly followed and obstructed their vehicles during a targeted immigration operation in south Minneapolis. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said agents instructed Good multiple times to exit her car and stop impeding law enforcement.

Video from the scene shows Renee Nicole Good’s plum-colored Honda Pilot stopped in the middle of a snow-lined residential street as ICE agents step out of a dark gray pickup truck and approach. In the footage, Good can be heard telling agents to “go around.” One agent responds by ordering her to “get out of the car.”

Moments later, the situation escalates. Good abruptly shifts into reverse, then accelerates forward. From one camera angle, the SUV appears to move directly into the path of an ICE agent standing in front of the vehicle. The officer sidesteps, pivots alongside the car, and fires multiple rounds as the SUV continues forward before crashing into a parked sedan.

DHS has characterized the action as an attempt to “weaponize her vehicle,” calling it an act of “domestic terrorism” and arguing the agent fired in fear for his life. Under U.S. law, a vehicle can be considered a deadly weapon if used in a way that poses imminent danger.

Local officials strongly dispute that interpretation. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Good was shot in the head and rejected the federal self-defense claim as unfounded, while Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz promised a full and independent investigation.

The footage captures only fragments of a chaotic encounter, leaving investigators to determine whether the agent faced an imminent threat — or whether the deadly outcome could have been avoided.
