3 dead, 1 critically injured in Seattle shooting |
The violent incident, which unfolded shortly before 2 a.m., marks one of the most tragic mass shootings in Seattle so far this year and has intensified concerns about public safety in the downtown area.
What Happened in the Pioneer Square Shooting?
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire near 172 South Washington Street, just outside OHM Nightclub, around 1:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found four adults — three men and one woman — suffering from gunshot wounds on the sidewalk.
Seattle Fire Department medics pronounced two men and one woman dead at the scene. The fourth victim, a man, was transported in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
Victims and Community Reaction
While the identities of the victims have not yet been publicly released, officials have confirmed that all four were adults and believed to be patrons or individuals near the nightclub at the time of the shooting. The King County Medical Examiner is expected to release the names once next of kin are notified.
Community members gathered later that morning in shock and grief. “This isn’t just another crime statistic — these are people’s lives,” said Angela Martinez, a resident and community organizer. “We need urgent action to stop this violence.”
Police Investigation: No Arrests Yet
The SPD Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Units have taken over the case. As of May 18, no arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects remain at large. Detective Brian Pritchard, speaking via email, stated that investigators are working “around the clock” to gather witness statements and surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Authorities believe the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation that escalated into gunfire, but they have not confirmed a motive. No weapons have been recovered at the scene, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.

Nightclub Scene and Rising Gun Violence in Seattle
The shooting took place just steps from OHM Nightclub, a popular late-night venue in the Pioneer Square area. While there’s no confirmation that the nightclub was directly involved, witnesses say a crowd had just exited the club minutes before the shooting began.
This incident adds to a troubling trend. According to Seattle crime data, gun violence in downtown neighborhoods, including Pioneer Square and Belltown, has surged over the past 12 months, with a 27% rise in shooting incidents year-over-year.
Mayor Bruce Harrell issued a brief statement: “We are heartbroken by the loss of life and the trauma inflicted on our community. Our police department will deploy all available resources to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
Calls for Action and Increased Police Presence
Local leaders and residents are calling for both short- and long-term solutions to address rising violence in central Seattle. Proposals range from increased patrols on weekend nights to investments in violence prevention and community outreach programs.
Seattle City Councilmember Tammy Morales, whose district includes parts of downtown, stated: “This tragedy is unacceptable. Our city must invest in both public safety and the underlying causes of violence.”
How You Can Help
Seattle police are requesting help from the public. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting or who may have security camera footage is asked to contact detectives.
